Literally Just a List of What I've Been Listening to Lately
I don’t know how to expand on that title. This is exactly that. I love music and I love sharing what’s been playing in my head. Those of you who used to get mixed cds from me on the regular know that. One year for Christmas, instead of a card (or maybe with my card, I can’t remember) I sent out mixed cds that covered the life of Jesus… I’ll let that sink in for a minute before carrying on. … … … … Ready? Ok. It wasn’t Christian music by any means. It included songs like “Take Me to the River” by the Talking Heads, “Help Me Mary” by Liz Phair and “Shine a Light” by the Rolling Stones. I don’t remember all of it but there’s a 95% chance I also included Patti Smith’s “Gloria” which has the iconic opening line of “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine.” Real chill stuff, ya know? I actually just remembered that it definitely opened with “Born to Die” by Lana Del Rey. This was obviously sent to a very select group of people.
What I’m listening to in a moment is actually something that I’ve been making note of in my notebook. It’s something that I’ve been doing since last year when I started writing more in my regular journal. It’s another part of wanting to capture the moment. I always write it at the top of the page with the time and location of where I’m at. I did occasionally also make note of what I was wearing. You may have noticed me briefly mention what I was listening to in a couple different posts. I’ve almost always got headphones on when I’m out and about wandering. Over time I’ve gotten pretty good at being able to pay attention to my surroundings while wearing headphones and being out walking but I focus more on the music so I don’t notice any outside noise. Since the start of this trip though I’ve been trying to curb how often I’m listening to something while out exploring so that I can hear the voices and the sounds of my environment and get a better sense of the country. So while I listened to some of these while out, most of these have been played while editing photos or writing on here. For example, the reason there’s so many in punk etc. section is because I was listening to them when writing all 4 posts for Dublin. I spend a lot of time jumping around from random band to random band until the right mood then just go down a rabbit hole from there.
There really is no point in me making this list and even less of a point for me to be organizing them other than for myself but whatever.
